When their plans for a nature trip go awry, Polly and boyfriend Seth decide to check into a motel. On their way, they're carjacked and kidnapped by low-rent crooks Dennis and Lacey, who take the victims and their SUV to a nearby gas station. Along the way, they encounter an increasingly terrifying horde of parasites, and if any of them intend to survive, they'll have to outsmart the deadly organisms.
Splintered sets its focus on Sophie (Holly Weston), a troubled young girl haunted by the abuse she suffered as a child and harbouring a deep fascination with the unexplained. In the hope of satiating her obsession with the latter, our heroine instigates a trip to the Welsh countryside with four friends, aimed at tracking down the legendary Beast of Bodmin. It seems the mythical creature â often thought to be a large wildcat or fox â has caught the public's attention once more thanks to a spate of attacks on livestock and one local farmer. It is an opportunity Sophie has decided is not to be missed and, armed with a video camera and a case of beer, the group head off into the woods. However, they soon uncover much more than they bargained for, with the female lead falling foul of a mysterious madman who locks her away in an apparent attempt to protect her from some unnamed terror.

The movie's main storyline follows the life of OtÃk, a mentally retarded young man, in a tight-knit village community. The sweet-tempered OtÃk works as an assistant truck driver with Mr. Pávek, his older colleague and practical-minded neighbor. Pávek's family takes care of OtÃk, whose parents are dead. However, the two coworkers become at odds over OtÃk's inability to perform even the simplest tasks. Pávek demands that OtÃk be transferred to assist another driver, who happens to be a choleric and suspicious man named Turek (Turk in Czech). Rather than work with Turek, OtÃk decides to accept an offer of employment in Prague, but finds he does not fit in to the city life. After discovering that the transfer of OtÃk to Prague was a trick by a crooked politician to get a deal on OtÃk's large inherited house, Pávek agrees to give OtÃk a second chance and retrieves him from the city to resume their work together.
