The film is beautifully but unassumingly set, and shows the hard conditions in which war is waged and its lack of glory. It ends straightforwardly with the declaration made after the death of Giovanni de'Medici by the commanders of the armies in Europe of not using again fire weapons because of their cruelty.

The seven short films making up GENIUS PARTY couldnât be more diverse, linked only by a high standard of quality and inspiration. Atsuko Fukushimaâs intro piece is a fantastic abstraction to soak up with the eyes. Masaaki Yuasa, of MIND GAME and CAT SOUP fame, brings his distinctive and deceptively simple graphic style and dream-state logic to the table with âHappy Machine,â his spin on a childâs earliest year. Shinji Kimuraâs spookier âDeathtic 4,â meanwhile, seems to tap into the creepier corners of a childâs imagination and open up a toybox full of dark delights. Hideki Futamuraâs âLimit Cycleâ conjures up a vision of virtual reality, while Yuji Fukuyamaâs "Doorbell" and "Baby Blue" by Shinichiro Watanabe use understated realism for very surreal purposes. And Shoji Kawamori, with âShanghai Dragon,â takes the tropes and conventions of traditional anime out for very fun joyride.
