Marilyn Jordan, an American, lives in Stockholm with her Swedish husband and family. Her behavior is bizarre, perhaps mad: she poisons the dog's milk and advises the dog not to drink it; she sets the sheets afire as her husband sleeps; she crawls under the dining table to sing. While detained at airport customs for carrying pruning shears, she meets a young Yugoslav woman and goes with her to a Gypsy enclave where she's fought over, takes a lover, helps with the sordid entertainment at a bar, and returns home more dangerous than before. The film also tells parallel stories of Marilyn's daughter becoming a junior homemaker as the young immigrant practices her striptease.
Formerly successful television producer Joachim Zand returns from America to his native France, where he previously has left everything behind, including friends, enemies and his own children. Sadly, these very students - who suffer silently at the hands of their seniors - in turn vent their frustrations by ragging their juniors in the following years. Thus, this cruel practice continues year after year and has claimed (and is still claiming) the lives and careers of innumerable students. The film 'Hostel' is a shocking eye-opener about this evil practice and is a wake-up call for all of us

A sort of forerunner to Hollywood's Boogie Nights (1997), this Danish melodrama is set in the world of strip clubs. A medical student (Frits Helmuth) earns money for tuition working in a burlesque joint. He falls for one of the girls (Malene Schwarz), but she is also involved with a movie director (John Price). The director and Helmuth get into a philosophical debate about love and Darwinism, and the film ends with a duel (the film's title). Duellen was met with mostly incomprehension when it premiered and is no more lucid when viewed today. The striptease scene featuring full-frontal nudity is tame by modern standards.

I believe the idea behind this flick was to show beautiful women getting naked in ludicrous situations, and it achieved this effect. There is plenty of nudity, as well as fun bonus features like casting calls where the women improvise with the director and actors (also getting naked). There is a good spirit to this thing, but one gets the sense that some of the tongue that was supposed to go in the cheek got cut off and left on the cutting-room floor, leaving the movie looking more stupid than anything. There is no sex in this, it is just a whole lot of fun nudity. So, if beautiful women finding any excuse to take off their clothes is your idea of a good time, wrapped in some cheesy space effects and a few good gags, this could be the thing for you. The brunette doing the striptease for the ridiculous, pizza-eating Elvis was the highlight for me. Everyone I've talked to who has seen this seems to have their own favorite goofy moment
